WE CAN’T AFFORD PRIVATE HEALTH CARE Cross-Canada Town Hall Meeting
The Medicare Works: Keep it Public, Keep it Fair Campaign: WE CAN’T AFFORD PRIVATE HEALTH CARE Cross-Canada Town Hall Meeting
Wednesday, November 15, 7-9pm, Rm 201 Kingston Hall, Queens U.
Featuring: Tom Kent senior policy aide to Lester B. Pearson, head of Kent Commission on Media Ownership, fellow Queens University School of Policy Studies; Steven Shrybman, Partner Sack Goldblatt Mitchell - with a public interest law practice defending Medicare including intervention in Chaoulli, and the successful Ontario Hydro privatization case; Natalie Mehra, Director Ontario Health Coalition. Moderated by Ross Sutherland, RN — Chairperson, Kingston Health Coalition. Canadians built a public health system so that all people would have access to health care. Care based on need. Not the size of our wallets. But now our system is under attack by those who want a two-tier for-profit system. More private clinics. More private insurance. More private hospitals. Top-quality services for those who can pay. Less access for the rest of us. There is no evidence that privitization will improve care or lessen wait times. In fact, the opposite. Join us as we discuss the challenges to public health care and plan for innovation and real improvement within the public system.
