Traditional West African Dance Workshops

date: Monday February 5, 12 and 26 from 1:00-2:30 pm
location: Upper Dance Studio, Queen’s U. Physical Education Centre, at Division and Union

This introductory dance workshop will feature basic traditional West African dance steps from several dances from Ghana and surrounding regions. African dance comprises of many traditional and modern dances, with great variation in style and form across the African continent. In Africa, dance is closely related to music, mime, storytelling, costume, and ritual. Often, a “call and response” dialogue occurs between dancer, drummer and spectators, which makes all parties integral to the event. Adults only; maximum 20 participants; workout/dance attire required, bring a water bottle and towel. African dance can be physically challenging. Please ensure that you are able to participate in this workshop that is similar to a fast paced cardiovascular workout!
