reelout — Climbing Mountains: Women Speak Out About Living With Cancer
Saturday, January 27 1:00pm
The Artel, 205 Sydenham Street
Coming Out Again
A documentary that examines the parallels between informing others you have cancer and coming out. Coming Out Again touchingly shares the unique experiences of lesbians living with cancer. The Kingston-produced documentary by local filmmaker Rowan Ramsay features interviews with lesbians with cancer, detailing the struggles they face on multiple fronts- family relationships, finances, medical treatment, and support opportunities. Coming Out Again weaves the important documentary information with the compelling story of Sarah, a single lesbian battling cancer.
Pleasant Street
Past reelout guest, Gerry Rogers brings us the story of three neighbours diagnosed with cancer living on Pleasant Street, in St. John’s Newfoundland. Two of the neighbours have been given six months to live; this film examines the journey to their final destination. Pleasant Street has been screened CBC television and at the ReelHeART International Film Festival in Toronto. Reelout marks the first time for Kingston audiences to see this powerful and human documentary in a community setting on the big screen.
Co-sponsored by:
