Building the New Academy: Employee Equity for TAs and RAs
April 18th from 12-2 at Ellis Hall, Queen’s University
Hosted by the Equity Committee of the Society of Graduate and Professional Students (SGPS.)
This event will feature a discussion with Dr. Frances Henry, Emeritus Professor of Anthropology at York University and author of the Henry Report: Understanding the Experiences of Visible Minority and Aboriginal Faculty Members at Queen’s University. Dr. Karen Dubinsky, Professor of History at Queen’s University, and Fred Ho, Staff Representative of the Canadian Union of Public Employees at York University which represents 2500 contract faculty, teaching and graduate assistants.
This event, which is part of the annual SGPS Lecture on Equity, has been organized in response to graduate students’ experiences as Teaching and Research Assistants at Queen’s University. The discussion will explore such issues as: racism, discrimination, sexism and inequality in hiring
practices, the work environments of graduate students at Queen’s University, and what they can expect as they move to their careers in the academy.
We encourage and invite participation from all members of the Queen’s community in this important event and discussion.
