New World Coming: The Sixties and the Shaping of Global Consciousness www.queensu.ca/history/News/NewWorldComing.htm

This interdisciplinary and international conference brings together two hundred and fifty scholars, artists, filmmakers, writers, poets and activists. The program features topics such as the history of environmental consciousness, art and activism, the New Left and the New Right, the globalization of popular music, Third World decolonization and liberation movements, Black Power, and sexual politics. We aim to foster a dialogue on the interconnected nature and legacies of the varied cultures and movements of “The Sixties.”

Plenary speakers include Rabab Abdulhadi, David Austin, Lillian Allen, Amiri Baraka, Varda Burstyn, Román de la Campa, Alice Echols, Cary Fraser, Patrizia Gentile, Van Gosse, George Katsiaficas, Ian McKay, Alanis Obomsawin, Dimitri Roussopoulos,Sheila Rowbotham and Jaime Veve. A parallel film program, including rare 1960’s era documentaries, is also featured.
