EQuIP presents Julia Serano!

Thursday, December 3, 2009
7:00pm - 9:00pm
Dunning 14

The Education on Queer Issues Project is proud to present author and activist Julia Serano! She will be coming to Queen’s to present a lecture and spoken word pieces about issues surrounding gender, specifically Trans-identities and femininity. The event will take place in Dunning 14 at 6:30pm on Thursday, December 3rd. It is free, but donations are appreciated!

With this event we hope to help create a dialogue around Trans-identities, issues and how Trans-identities and feminism intersect. We hope to promote awareness of Trans-identities and oppression Trans-identified people face from different groups, and to promote dialogue around deconstructing gender.

Julia Serano is an internationally known author and activist and “in recent years, Julia has gained notoriety in transgender, queer, and feminist circles for her unique insights into gender. She has been invited to speak about transgender and trans women’s issues at numerous universities, at queer, women’s studies, psychology and philosophy-themed conferences, and her writings have been used as teaching materials in college-level gender studies courses across the United States” (from her website found at www.juliaserano.com).

EQuIP would like to thank the following groups for making this event possible: The Ontario Public Interest Research Group, The Women’s Centre, The Committee On Gender, Student Affairs, and CFRC.
