URGENT: KINGSTON COURT HEARINGS, at 5 Court St.,
Tues, 11 a.m., and currently on the court schedule through to Thursday
PLEASE ATTEND TO SUPPORT NATIVES AND SETTLERS CHARGED WITH CONTEMPT.

“Ardoch Algonquin First Nation has no choice but to continue to prohibit uranium exploration and mining on our community lands which have been staked by FVC. While we will not prevent access to private property, we cannot allow a drill to be brought onto our lands from any adjacent private property and will stop any such drill from having access. This stance will no doubt lead to actions against our leaders including the possibility of arrest, fines of $50,000 in compensation to FVC and $5,000 a day fines for preventing the drill from having access to our lands. These actions against our leaders have been requested in the contempt order filed by FVC which will be heard in Kingston
beginning on Tuesday. We are calling on other Indigenous peoples and Canadian citizens to attend the court process to show FVC and Ontario that colonialism against Indigenous peoples must stop and that Canada and Ontario must take responsibility for the past or this issue will continue to skyrocket until someone is hurt or worse.”

On November 14 a Queen’s faculty member was physically intimidated and verbally abused with racial taunts by a group of students on campus. This event has sparked widespread condemnation.

Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident at Queen’s, and faculty members need to play a critical role in addressing systemic racism at the university. Although real change will only come about with sustained efforts on a broad front – from hiring practices to curriculum development – there is a role for public demonstration of opposition and solidarity.

On Wednesday January 16 Queen’s faculty are being asked to gather in front of Stauffer Library at 3:15pm for a brief rally to demonstrate our opposition to racism and to make it clear that we will not tolerate racist behaviour from students, from staff, from the university administration or from amongst ourselves.

Please take 15 minutes on January 16 to show your support.

Queen’s staff and students are also encouraged to attend.

Calling all Kingston area anarchists, anti-authoritarians and fellow travelers! A new website (http://kingston.roadnetwork.org) focusing on anarchist and anti-authoritarian relevant groups, campaigns, projects, institutions, and media in the Kingston area and regional links has been created. If something that you think hasn’t been included that ought to be on that site (i.e. are in harmony with the points of unity), please send
an email to kingston[at]roadnetwork.org

This initiative has been supported by the Revolutionary Ontario Anarchist Development (ROAD) Network collective in Kingston. ROAD Kingston helps facilitate anarchist communications and networking through the website and coordinating encounters between anarchists in the area.

ROAD is an explicitly anarchist network that was founded in the year of 2005 with an emphasis on rural Ontario. They struggle against all forms of domination and oppression including, but not limited to racism, classism, ableism, heterosexism, ageism, sexism, transphobia, and religious intolerance.
