Queer Issues Pride Celebrations
This folder contains specific information about the annual pride week celebrations that have been going on in Kingston. It has been divided into subsections based on the year of the celebrations. One of the earliest pride parades was conducted in 1986. The folder contains letters that were sent by active members of the community in running the parade. Furthermore, some of the articles outline how activists had to go through a difficult time in getting government’s consent in running the activities and parades during the pride weeks. In the early 90s, pride parade was still frowned upon by members of the community. It was not until the late 90s that people started feeling comfortable with such celebrations. The newspaper articles outline some of the specific events that happened during the celebration weeks. The folder also contains flyers from the Queen’s community, which shows that students have also been actively involved in such parades along with the community.
