Every year, at the beginning of the fall (and occasionally winter) semesters, we host an “alternative” orientation week featuring events, workshops, screenings, and more, often in collaboration with other campus and community groups. Alt-Frosh and Alt-Frost are designed to connect people with like-minded folks and initiatives, provide education on social and environmental justice topics, and create a welcoming space for those looking for a place to fit in on campus.

We had a wide variety of events, including a People’s History Walking Tour and a screening of Analogue Revolution featuring a Q&A panel with director Marusya Bociurkiw.

This semester’s programming featured a number of educational talks and workshops, on topics such as People’s History, abolition, and freedom of information requests.

This semester’s Alt-Frosh was a collaboration with the Black Studies department at Queen’s, and featured events such as a Queer Muslim Liberation workshop and a People’s History Picnic.

A number of excellent talks were hosted this semester, from speakers such as Wet’suwet’en land defender Eve Saint and Holocaust survivor Suzanne Weiss. This semester’s programming also offered opportunities for volunteers to connect and hang out.

Events this semester included a feminist chill-in, another recurring event we host ever so often, as well as a cedar scrub workshop. Other events included an open mic performance night, “build your own website” workshop, and “anarchism for students” workshop.
